Day 79

August 16, 2017
50 degrees this morning.  Leaving Dawson City after four days we stopped for fuel on our way out of town and began our drive, worrying about the condition of road and to our surprise it was not nearly as bad as we had been warned.  After 90 miles we stopped at Moose Lodge for pastries.

After our treats we decided we did not need lunch so we drove another 131 miles to arrive in Carmacks, YT.  Along the way we crossed the Yukon River that we followed a lot of today, stopped to view Five Finger Rapids just outside Carmacks.

The campground has only 15 spaces so we took up 12 of those.  The laundromat served the campground so we bundled up our dirties and put four loads through the washers and dryers.  Finished this in time for happy hour and enjoyed our savory pastries from Moose Lodge.  Bob has wrenched his back so hooking and unhooking the car is a painful chore.  Hopefully tomorrow he’ll be better as the drive is only 115 miles.  Read our kindles as no TV or cable at this location but did have cell service.
