Day 75

August 12, 2017
Up early for our showers.  We had arrived with full fresh water and empty holding tanks.  Worked fine!   Away at 8:20 AM and just as warned the not paved road out of Chicken was horrible for about 27 miles, took 1.5 hours so not too fine a beginning.  Then we got 13 miles of good paved road that the AK government built so that folks coming in from Canada would think all Alaska roads were that good.  That ended at the border where we entered Canada.  Then it was 65 miles of well maintained gravel roads, called the “Top of the World Highway”, with a few stretches of paved (not many).

The views of scenery were wonderful and almost overcame the bad roads.

We had lunch at a pull out then arrived at the ferry about 2 PM for the 10 minute ride across the Yukon River to Dawson City.  Cute town with dirt streets, very historic with old houses that have been renovated and look nice.  You can’t imagine how dirty our car and motorhome are.  So we went to wash the car, at least.

At 7:30 PM we walked from the campground to “Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Saloon and Gambling Hall” where we mingled about the slots, poker tables, roulette tables and found some seats for the show at 8:30 with a very talented Gertie singing and helped by four lovely can-can dancers.

Back to the Unity and to bed.
