Day 94

August 31, 2017
Set the alarm early for our drive to Portland to have the 20,000 miles service on our Unity.  We drove down the US101 east side of the Washington Olympic peninsula through the Olympic National Forest with the Hood Canal on the driver’s side (thus no photos) but it was very scenic with quaint little beach towns.  This was a pleasant enough drive with little traffic (surprise) until we hit IH5 going south, mostly 6 lanes and very heavy traffic.  We had to drive through Portland on IH5 to reach the Mercedes-Benz dealer south in Watsonville to have the service.  While they restored our Unity we had a nice lunch at McCormick & Schmick.  We started with clam chowder, then an order of lightly battered and fried quilcene oysters, then fish and chips and a nice bottle of chenin blanc-vognier.  All was exceptionally good and much enjoyed.  After picking up our Unity we headed back to Portland to find our parking place on the “hill” where the VA Hospital and all the Oregon teaching hospitals are located.  As Bob is having an eye injection here tomorrow we were allowed to park our Unity in a special parking space for RV’s.  Bob’s niece, Iris Elizabeth walked over from her job at OSHU for a visit when she got off work.  It was great to see her again after several years.  There is a gondola station at the hospital that she rides down from the “hill” and then walks to her home.  We did not need any dinner tonight instead a glass of wine with Liz.
