Summer 2017

May 30, 2017
Our Alaska adventure began today with final loading of the motorhome refrigerator and freezer.  At 9:30 AM we departed Georgetown with 10,182 miles on the coach rolling along IH-35 North.  Maybe because we’re on our vacation (from our retirement) but we had never noticed wheat fields along the route south of Waco and north toward Hillsboro.  We stopped at Hillsboro at the Outlet Mall, where it seems like most of it has no tenants so easy parking for the coach and car for a walk across the street to the Lone Star Cafe for lunch.
At Fort Worth we had a big delay for a wreck at one of the cloverleafs that cost us about 45 minutes plus the construction delay.  A stop here at Buckee’s for fuel and to our surprise they had diesel fuel for $1.99/gal while the regular unleaded was $2.03.  Never saw that before.
Our chosen campground for the night was Winstar just across the Red River in OK.  This is a huge Chickasaw Indian casino (largest in the US), hotels and very nice campground.  At registration we were told that if we got the Club Passport (frequent gambler) our first night in the campground was free and in future $10 discount.  So guess who signed up.  After getting hooked up and the air conditioning going (hot in OK) we had a nap.
About 6:00 PM we took the shuttle over to the casino.  Wow!  It’s almost two miles long with sections themed as cities of the world, all with slot machines.  We were told they have more slots than any other casino in the world.  We ran into friends from Georgetown who are in our Sunday School class celebrating their 59th anniversary, Wendall and Marie.  Fun to run into them and we planned for breakfast in the morning .  We wandered around a while, had a glass of wine and sandwich at Toby Keith’s Bar and Grill, plugged $20 into a machine with our new Club Passport and ran up 5+ points in order to receive $25 on the card to use next time.  Supposed to be a good deal but somehow I feel I’m out $20 bucks.  Oh well, fun evening.  232 miles today.

Back to the coach and to bed.
